Do something booky today!

worldbookday

Today is World Book Day and it is celebrating its 20th anniversary this year. World Book Day UK aims to encourage children to explore the pleasures of books and reading.

Have you ever wanted to read about the history of reading? Well now you can by borrowing A History of Reading by Alberto Manguel, available in the Hartley Library. One of the issues that comes up in this book is the shift from reading aloud to silent reading. In classical antiquity, silent reading was more or less unknown. Can you imagine all being in the library reading your books aloud!

However as adults we can also enjoy and explore the pleasure of reading. Why not take a selfie of what you’re reading, be it for fun or for study and remember to tag us in your photos @unisotonlibrary #unisotonlibrary
