You may have noticed on the front page of SUSSED that the University has been trying to reduce carbon emissions, and this is represented by the lightbulb above. Our very own Mark Illingworth proudly displays this purple sign in the SUSSED picture, but you may well wonder just what the Library did to help. Mark explained to me that draft-proof treatment has been applied to all the windows in the Library ensuring a snug seal when they are closed. It is wonderfully warm weather at the moment, but once the cold weather is upon us, the windows once closed will substantially reduce the amount of heat escaping from the building and make the Library a much less draughty environment. This is great news and both helps those of you who have complained about cold spots in the Library, and is a real contribution to the reduction of carbon emissions in our environment.
